How to make wood shine?
For my friends birthday I made him an airplane out of wood, the only problem is now it looks dull and scratched up. The wood is smooth.. but just not very pretty because it looks scratched. I was wondering if there is any way to make it shine. Yeah I know you can go and buy a wood gloss.. But I'm talking about something homemade, and I don't want it to harm the wood.. Your opinions would be appreciated!
The only thing I can think of that is a household product that can give wood a luster is mineral oil or furniture paste wax. Otherwise, you can get polyurethane in a spray paint can in semi-gloss and high-gloss finishes. Use a few light coats instead of one or two heavy coats to prevent runs and sagging. Good Luck.
Oh, Liquid Gold furniture polish (spray) is great to hide scratches and does leave a nice sheen on the wood, too.
