What is a good drum kit brand for Rock/metal drumming?

I am buying a used drum kit as a beginner, but I want it to be a good quality so that i can keep it for a while with out upgrading. I was looking at a REMO 5 piece with a ride, crash, and hi-hat cymbal for $400. Is REMO a good brand, or should I go for something like Pearl or Yamaha?

For your money, a Remo will give you a good sound. Pearl and Yamaha are really for the guys and gals who can dish out the big bucks. What you have is a solid set that will allow you not only to delve into the basic rock rhythms, but also into other styles such as jazz, samba, and dance patterns. As a matter of fact, your set is actually prime for jazz styles. So, in all, it's a great set, and if one day you want to upgrade your set and you have the money, go for it. However, stick with that set you found. You'll get a lot of life out of it for the money you pay.
