What is the difference between a Coast Guard Air Station, a Small Boat Station, and a regular Station?
I'd like to know the specific differences in these types of Coast Guard facilities as far as the missions they perform, day to day activites and anything you can tell me about them. Do Air Stations also have cutters and boats as well? If anyone has served in these types of units, which one did you like better and why?
Air Stations will only have aircraft (and the odd truck/sedan or three). Small Boat Stations will usually only have smaller boats (under 65' in length), though from time to time there will be a small cutter home-ported there as well. Most cutters are based at Sector offices.
I've been stationed at Sectors (or the equivalent) most of my career. My first unit was on a cutter that was co-located with a Station.
Personally, I like Sectors the best, but that's just me. There are lots of things to do there on any given day, with lots of missions being performed.
